Creating a self care space

A fun teaching day today!!! Yee-ha!!!! ❤️❤️❤️

One of the courses I wrote (The Heartworks Creative) for the Recovery College to be used across all campuses is called “Creating a Self Care Space”

It was inspired by my Mum and her little spot in the corner of the formal dining room (because Italians have two!!) where she had her saints, trinkets from Italy, memorial cards of nearest and dearest including her parents and her rosary beads. It was her space, her little altar that no one touched. It was an unwritten rule and one that was respected by the both of us – my dad and I – living there over my 28 years!

She went there for her time outs, her meditations and her May prayers. When she sought guidance or solace, it was her spot.

So with her in mind, and how to share that comfort in recovery where peace can be hard fought and rarely found – I wrote it 👍❤️

We look at creating a space of any shape, size, surface or spot that works for individual circumstances including budget constraints.

We explore colour, texture and the remaining senses – smell, sound / hearing, tasting and sensing in conjunction with interior decorating and design as well as art principles (which overlap – things such as lighting etc)

And we look at needs, wants, goals, self worth and what it means to nurture and self love. ❤️❤️

One of my faves – and it’s one where I teach with Mum by my side 👍😊 Lots of heart ❤️❤️❤️
